Avoiding Rental Scams
Rental scams often pressure you to pay a deposit before viewing, or use photos from real listings under fake contacts.
Red flags
- Landlord is "overseas" and cannot meet you
- Rent far below local comparable stock
- Payment requested via gift cards, crypto or personal e-wallet only
- Refuses a written lease or viewing
Safer practice
- View the property in person (or with a trusted person)
- Verify the agent/agency on the Midlands directory or PPRA registration where applicable
- Pay deposits only against a clear written agreement and receipt
- Cross-check the listing on more than one portal
